2e in Australia - Not compatible with Vodafone Aus, as of Oct 28th 2026: possibly all Telcos in time

Have just raised this as a support ticket but posting here, in case of use/interest to others

Happily using the 2e, on Vodafone, in Australia, since 2024

Recently started getting messages from Vodafone about the device not being compatible,
and thus being blocked from the network as of Oct 28th 2026.

Seems to be tied in to this advice

“Australia’s telecommunications regulator (ACMA) now mandates that if a phone cannot guarantee a 4G VoLTE emergency call, it must be blocked. Telstra, Optus, and TPG/Vodafone are now systematically bricking incompatible devices.”

and also this

"While every 4G phone
supports VoLTE, not every 4G phone supports VoLTE Emergency Calling.

Without that support, you can’t dial 000 emergency services from a
phone in Australia. Because of that, the mobile network owners in
Australia are required to block those phones."

Not sure about the use of the word “bricking” in terms of device damage: would
presume it’s more in the sense of “rendered useless”.

Have to assume that there’s be a firmware upgrade needed, as opposed to
anything at the OS level. where I have the lastest eOS Emerald, so 4.3 (Sep 17th)

For non-Aus readers, there’s been a huge kefuffle here, in the wake of the Aus
telcos stuffing up the triple-zero environments, which saw some calls not getting
to an operator, and a couple of deaths that might have been prevented, had the
000 calls been answered.
