Can't read group messages/texts

I am unable to read group text messages - have tried various settings recommended. My employer utilizes group texts for some announcements and emergency alerts as part of our emergency preparedness training (public health) - instead of our old methods that involved phone tree calls. they also do not download - and are not visible when I link to my computer. I am likely going to need to look into a different phone if I cannot get this to work.

Sorry to hear that!

What model 2e do you have? 2020x Serial (zirconia) or 2021x Serial (emerald), and what version of Android?

Also, what SMS/MMS app are you using?

Hi – Hardware version is mt5762, Serial is 2020x. I have Google messages - installed from Google Play, with SMS access allowed. Android version 11.

Are you in a position to backup all your important information on the phone to do a manual upgrade to Android 13, which may require a full device reset?

HI – I have never done a full back up – I just went to Google services in Settings and turned on backup - what other instructions do I need to follow to do that? Lori\

You may want to hook your phone up to a computer and copy off photos you’ve taken, files you’ve downloaded, etc.

If you are using the Google One Backup and every option is turned on and you have sufficient Google Drive space, you need not do a manual backup, but that isn’t always the case.

Got it figured out last night - we shall see if it works! thanks for the suggestion. Lori

Lori can you confirm what version of Android you are running?

What carrier do you have, as well?

I updated to Android 13 this week. We use Consumer Cellular as a carrier. My husband can get group texts on his Iphone.

Can you follow their APN Guide and call to confirm what network serves you, if needed?

https://www.consumercellular.com/help/phones-and-services/data-text-messaging/i-have-a-non-consumer-cellular-phone-how-do-i-set-up-messaging

OK – I have finally had time to work on this — I followed the APN set up process – info. does not seem to save. I have Consumer Cellular - ATT as my carrier and network. I have set up the APN before and it worked – but maybe not since the Android 13 update. I have spent time with customer support there - and their efforts have not resolved the problem. Wondered if somehow the phone is considered “locked” with a previous network provider - although I have used this just fine before the update to Android 13. Not sure what to do next. I have also had more incidences with “black screen” - and sudden phone shut downs.

Thanks for digging more.

Hmm… the phone isn’t locked and we have not seen other folks be unable to set APN.

Are you in a position to backup your data and reset the phone, check for updates without restoring your account/data, test the new APN settings with a group message and report back?

Hi – I will try that over the weekend. Thanks. Lori

Ok – reset phone - APN setting seem to be saved. BUT my bigger issue is that I can’t make or receive calls. (haven’t had a chance to test the group texts yet) – instantly gives the caller “call failed” message - and when I try to place calls, I don’t hear any ringing - the call just spontaneously ends. And I still not able to read group texts – I feel like I am at the end of what I am able to do.

Lori,

I am going to loop in Support to see what they have to say.

Hi @Lori - this seems to be an APN mismatch. Could you double-check the APN after the reset?
