It seems this used to be a feature where Android would enable Do not disturb during a call automatically. This feature was removed and does not seem to be a setting anymore.
Does anyone know of any workarounds for this?

The do not disturb during calls feature was disabled by Google due to too many complaints from users saying they missed important notifications during calls.
You’d think that Google would leave the option of at least lowering notification sounds, but they just took it out.
Applications such as Tasker and Macrodroid make it easy to set up a function which mutes notifications during a call.
