Mobile Network Issue - Ting & Teracube 2s

I recently switched cell service from T-Mobile to Ting. They sent me an X3 SIM card to use. Call and text worked fine. But there were problems with getting the mobile data to function properly. When I chatted with a Ting customer service representative he said that the device is not fully compatible because it lacks the band 12 feature. This is odd because all the Teracube forum posts I have reviewed says it should work on band 12.

We then tried the following trouble-shoot steps:

  1. Reset network settings (no change)
  2. Modify APN settings - based on the information here (everything was correct except for the APN type - it was missing admin & internet. However, everything was greyed out and I was unable to edit it.)
  3. Add a new APN with the correct settings (after attempting to save the new APN the error message said “Carrier does not allow adding APNs of type dun.” When I asked if there was a way for that restriction to be modified on Ting’s end, he said “we don’t have the means”
  4. Add a new APN with the correct settings - only omitting “dun” under APN type (this seems to have worked. Deleting “dun” means no hotspot or tethering capability, but at this point it’s the best solution I could come up with.

I’m hopeful that the process detailed above might help users in the future. I’m curious to hear learn more about the “dun” change and the band 12 issue. Does anyone have any insight on those two things?
