I got a Teracube 2e back when it was still on Indiegogo. Its got Android 11. I replaced the battery a year back. Recently I’ve noticed the Cell signal stays at E almost everywhere. I’m on a family plan and other phones using the same carrier work just fine on the same carrier. When I connect to WiFi, then the E disappears and it looks like its on LTE, and the signal strength improves quite a bit as well.
Anyone else have the same problem? Its getting quite frustrating. I also dont seem to get GPS when I’m out of wifi range
GPS and most signals were worse on 11 (and even worse on 10) than on 13. If there isn’t a reason why you need Android 11, especially if your phone has reduced functionality currently, I’d highly recommend updating to 13.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Well, my phone seemed to act better today. While on the road, I looked at the cell signal bars, and the quality was decent. It was even saying ‘LTE’ today, whereas for the past few weeks it was saying ‘E’. weird…, At first I thought it might’ve been my carrier limiting my data plan, but we got 2 more phones at home in the same plan, and none if them had any problem with cell signal…Really strange that it got better the day after I complained about it…
Anyway, I’m still interested in the upgrade, since, another problem I have is that I’ve tried multiple times last few weeks to upgrade to Android 11 zirconia, but everytime, even though my teracube shows that its upgrading, it still finally boots back to the same old version, and then after a day, shows that the zirconia update is available…
Any guides you know of for upgrading Teracube to Android 13?
If you got the phone back in the crowd-backed days, it should be Zirconia rather than Emerald, and so the directions and download would be here - but verify your SN is the 2020 rather than 2021 before beginning:
Basically, make sure everything is backed up whether into the cloud or offline, because there will be a data reset and if your sdcard is formatted for internal data rather than simply storage, it will also need to be reinitialized. After that’s done, download the file manually, whether on your phone or external device, and transfer it to the phone’s storage. Then go to the updater section in Settings, and point it to your downloaded update file.
It will take about 20-40 minutes, before it will load to a screen telling you that you need to accept the factory reset. After you allow that and allow it to reboot back to system, it will then go to the standard setup screen. If you did the Google backup, it should ask you during the setup if you’d like to restore the data from a prior phone, then (if accepted) begin reinstalling all of the apps and data you’d previously had while it was on Android 11.
If you had an internally formatted sdcard, you’ll need to reinitialize it and sooner is better if you’d like apps to actually consider it for installations. If it was formatted as storage-only, it should still have all of your data available, but of course it won’t assist you with direct-storage expansion. Note that internally formatted sdcards will sometimes fail to initialize properly if you don’t unlock the phone quickly enough after reboot; if you experience that, simply reboot the phone again and try to unlock it faster next time.
After the applications are completely done loading, my recommendation is to load all of the Google security updates. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell how many of them are remaining and many of them look identical since it simply shows the size so sometimes people will believe that they aren’t installing properly, but there might actually be over a dozen of these. To get fully updated, go to Settings, then Security, and scan through the updates in there. If it finds anything, it’ll do its tiny download and then reboot and slowly process that specific micro-update. Either keep working through those, or they’ll slowly apply one update per reboot as you keep using your phone normally, which means that depending on your personal habits, those may or may not ever automatically catch up to a safe and stable state.
Anyways, after everything is done with both the Teracube and Google updates, make sure that all of the app updates are completed in the Play Store, and then enjoy using your much-updated phone.
