Question: How do I know when my son wants to use a new app? I can see that the new app in listed in the Blocked category on the parent app. But I don’t get any notifications on my phone.

Yes - we are actively working to bring out New app install notifications and should release that feature soon. On that note - do check out our roadmap for all the exciting features we will be releasing next year.
