I have happily used my 2e (zirconia) for the past 2 years using a GSMA (AT&T) sim from RedPocket. Last month I purchased a oneplus nord that was not compatible with AT&T, so I purchased a GSMT (T-Mobile) sim from RedPocket , migrated my phone number and the service was awful. I’m in the country here, so I wasn’t all that surprised. So I decided to switch back to the 2e. The 2e was nearly out of storage, so I backed up everything, and did a factory reset and then restored my apps and data. This solved the storage issue. I then put in a new GSMA sim from RedPocket. When I tried to activate it, I was told that my 2e wasn’t on their list of compatible phones. I forged ahead and activated the sim, transferred my phone number and things seemed good until I tried to make a phone call. Got a message saying that I needed to sign in to AT&T. I thought perhaps that adding an APN might help, so Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Access Point Names - and this returns “Settings isn’t responding”. Waiting doesn’t help, I assume the app has crashed. I’ve tried this a number of times with the same result. I’ve updated the OS version to Teracube build number 11.05+c24c5f9.zirconia.user.
So I don’t know where to go from here. Help will be appreciated.
Can you backup everything again, do all the system updates and go to Android 13 and try again?
Since you have a Zirconia on 11, it might get stuck before upgrading to Android 13, but the updater will warn you. Again, make sure all your data is backed up.
Thanks for your reply. Just to make sure I understand - I should backup, then reset to factory, as I did before, then update to the latest android version, right?
When you upgrade Zirconia from 11 to 13, it will force a factory reset from recovery, so there isn’t a lot of reason to do it manually first. If you want to do a factory reset from the settings menu after upgrading to 13 if there’s any weirdness, that’d be more valid.
As Maymne stated.
Let us know how things behave after being on current Android 13.
Thank you both. The upgrade to 13 went off without problem. I updated the APN in all fields save one (the MNC field.) It is prefilled in and when I change it from 280 to 410 (per redpocket configuration instructions) the whole thing disappears. I’ve tried it several times and changing that field always erases the file. This is not a TeraCube problem though. I will go back to redpocket about it. As of now, the phone part of the phone still doesn’t work. I show bars at the top of the screen, but when I dial, I get a nice message from AT&T saying that I need to “make a payment in order to use your prepaid service.” Not sure what that’s about, but hopefully redpocket will.
I haven’t restored my apps and data yet - will let you know if I have problems.
Again, Thank You for the help. I think my problems are carrier based instead of phone so I’ll keep plugging away in that direction.
Hmm… I wonder if the save of the APN fails because the network is rejecting the APN settings?
Let us know what RedPocket say.
Do you know if other ATT MVNOs are suitable in your area? I use CricKet without issue where I am, but they may not meet your needs.
Problem is solved! The connection issue was because the sim I bought at target had no plan attached. Which is what the dialog from at&t was trying to tell me. So the 2e is working great again! The rep I spoke with didn’t have an answer as to why the APN would erase when the MNC field was changed, but she did say that it didn’t matter. Thank you for staying with me through this process.
Ah, that can happen if it isn’t scanned or activated properly at the Point of Sale, like with Gift Cards.
Glad you are sorted!
