Security Requirements

Hi there,

Anyone had an issue with their teracube 2e suddenly showing a message saying device doesn’t meet security requirements? and suggesting it may be because it is rooted? I have never rooted my phone, so I don’t know why this message is suddenly appearing. I have tried installing the latest OS versions, and I thought that had fixed it, but the message has now come back. Can anyone help? Should I try a factory reset, or is there a less destructive way of solving the problem?

N.

Same here, which is blocking my NFC payments.
I tried reinstalling the last update, but It ended showing up an ‘installation failed’ message.
Factory reset is my next in line to try, after a phone backup.

Thank you for responding. I was starting to get worried that I was the only one to struggle with this!

To be honest, I hadn’t realised how much I had come to rely on the phone for paying for things! Loss of that function is really annoying! :frowning:

I was hoping not to have to factory reset, but it is starting to look like the main option…

Factory reset, but the ‘rooted phone’ message remains.
Not sure if it’s worth keeptrying factory reset until it’s fixed. Any ideas @Saijin_Naib ?

Sorry to hear it hasn’t helped. I did notice that having updated the OS to 14.1, the phone now refers to itself as a 2s, not a 2e, and I don’t think Google has a 2s on its list of certified phones - could this be contributing to the issue?

EDIT: actually it is now showing as 2e - I wonder where I saw it saying 2s? If I find where it said it, I will try and screenshot…

EDIT EDIT: I found it! in the backup tab - it says it is a 2s! Really odd…

I can confirm that on my side too:

Another strange behavior is when trying to check for Google Play Store update It immediately gets to the previous screen without doing It.

my play store is saying it is up to date…

I use my phone to take payments for my business, so I was worried that NFC payments wouldn’t work, but they do. So I can take payments on the phone (via Sumup), but I can’t pay for things with the phone (via google wallet), so this isn’t a hardware issue almost certainly…

Are both devices 2e emerald (2021x serial) on the current latest/stable Android v14.1.x release?

About when did this start happening?

Mi e os a 2020 (Zirconia) one, updated to latest stable via OTA the same day It was available.
I could even make 1 payment on NFC after the update, but after that It os showing as not complying because of rooting.

Hi @sajin_naib! Thank you for helping out!

Mine is Emerald (2021x), and on 14.1. Problem started around the end of the week beginning 18th August, when I was still on Android 11. Had hoped the OS upgrades would solve it…

I had one app that I thought I had sideloaded, so I removed that, but still hasn’t helped - is there a quick way to find out which apps on your phone are sideloaded? or at least now not available in the Play Store? I wondered if that might have something to do with it - perhaps google has clamped down on non-official apps being on the phone, and killed the certification for those phones…

Not really an easy way that I know of, no.

If you view the apps’ info in Settings → Apps, it will show you way down at the bottom where the app was installed from.

So, apps from Google Play Store will say such and have a link to the Store, apps from F-Droid or similar will say such.

The OS keeps track, but I have yet to find an easy way to “audit” the apps list to see which apps were installed from where.

Thank you both for reporting, I’ve upstreamed this to the team to look at.

I’ve noticed since starting in the Android 14 that my phone has never said it was certified, in Google Play Store → Settings → About. My phone is not rooted, as every time I try to root it, the phone starts boot looping. It’s a Zirconia that worked fine tapping with Android 13. If you need me to grab the info from Google Play Store → Settings-> Developer Options → Check Play Integrity or something, can do.

The team informed me that they are aware of this issue and are working on a fix.

I have no timeline for the fix yet, but thank everyone for reporting/informing on it so it can get fixed.
